Drinkin' Don Pablo
This is one of our favorite pieces that we created with Nancy Opel and Jillian Atkins for Don Pablo Coffee. Oh yes, it’s bizarre. The impetus behind this concept came from Darron “Don Pablo” Burke who wanted us to do something similar to a music video that he saw for the song “We No Speak Americano” by Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP. This video was done in a Chaplin-esque, Western style with a hip-hoppy music track. Enter Angel Mia Garcia who came up with the idea to do something involving arm wrestling and female empowerment. Then filter it through Nancy and Jillian, and this is what you get. We did this in both English and Mandarin. The Mandarin version is a hoot.
This saloon set was built in our studio, courtesy of Jerry Blohm and his team at Movie Prop Rentals. The music was created by Karel Rogers. We recorded the vocals in our VO booth with Nancy and Jillian. Everybody you see, with the exception of Nancy and Jillian, are all Don Pablo Coffee employees who came in on their lunch break to dress up and be in the video. The arm wrestling champ is Emil Segebre, Don Pablo’s coffee buyer and Q Grader.
