Out Of Coffee

“Out Of Coffee” was the very first time I met Darron Burke and the very first commercial produced for Don Pablo Coffee.  At the time it was called Cafe Don Pablo.  This was produced in a fairly unorthodox fashion.  When I contacted Darron by phone to talk about direction for his first commercial, he suggested I just come by the roastery and we’ll shoot something.  I don’t know how I agreed to that back then, but I did.  Darron apparently had this whole idea in his head and told me his plan when I got there.  Improvising on our feet, we planned out the shots that we could shoot at the roasting warehouse, and he gave me footage that he already had shot in Colombia.

I did a cut for Darron.  He came down to the editing bay and gave some good suggestions for revisions, and this is what came out of it.  Pretty good after all.  It’s still a favorite of Don Pablo’s customers.  The things that make me cringe are the varying video qualities of the different footage, and the fact that you don’t really get that Eliana (Darron’s wife) at the end there is just talking to the bag of coffee and not Don Pablo.
